Super Science Saturday

Super Science Saturday (SSS) combines science education with Halloween fun. 2010's theme will be "Sound Science" and the NCAR Wizards will be entralling young people with science again, this year exploring principles of sound and the meaning of "sound science" in a manner that will both delight and educate their audiences.

The annual SSS event is designed to promote public science literacy and provide memorable science experiences for families. Frequent participants include numerous science centers and local on-air meteorologists from Channel 7 News.  This year's event is scheduled for Saturday, October 24. Mark your calendar and plan on having a super science Saturday with us.

Wild Earth Saturday Each April

Wild Earth Saturday event

Wild Earth Saturday draws hundreds of families each year to the NCAR Mesa Lab to celebrate Earth Day with hands-on science activities, demonstrations, and presentations. This annual free event is cosponsored by UCAR/NCAR and Wild Bear Center for Nature Discovery. Earth Day murals created by students from several Boulder County schools are displayed, such as the one shown to the left. Next April's Wild Earth Saturday is scheduled for Saturday April 17, 2010. Come and celebrate the Earth in all of its wonder with us!

Outreach events

Outreach Events

There are many science outreach events in which UCAR's Office of Education and Outreach is proud to be a partner. A sampling of such activities in the past year include Science Saturdays at Boulder's 29th Street Mall; CU's Water Festival; Girls Exploring Science, Engineering, and Technology; the Science is Everywhere program with the St. Vrain Valley School District's elementary MESA programs; and many teacher professional development workshops and courses offered in local to national venues. Annual Girl Scouts at NCAR Day

Girl Scouts at NCAR Day

Each spring and fall NCAR's female scientists and numerous Girl Scouts in troops from across the Denver Metro area get to know one another during Girl Scouts at NCAR Day, a day-long event at NCAR's Mesa Lab. Also known as Climate and Weather: The Two Go Together, the program originated in 2004 and continues today to encourage girls and young women to consider science, mathematics, engineering, and/or technological careers. The event is typically held in May and October each year. Interested troops or individual scouts can register via the Girl Scouts of Colorado Website in late winter and late summer.
