May 2005 Orlando Meeting Presentation Archive

The second NASA Earth Science Education Community meeting was held May 18-20, in Orlando, Florida.  The meeting was attended by 85 representatives of elementary – university education, informal science education, and representatives from NASA and agencies including National Science Foundation and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

At the meeting, a draft NASA Earth science education roadmap was presented for community review and comment.  The roadmap will be a 10-year plan that guides the NASA Earth science education program and ensures that future generations of Earth explorers have the knowledge and ability required to understand and protect our home planet and contribute to NASA’s Vision for Space Exploration.  Dr. Carl Pilcher, Senior Scientist for Astrobiology and Science Mission Directorate (SMD) EPO Senior Official, spoke to the group by teleconference about integrating Earth and space science education in the SMD.

Plans are to place the Earth science education roadmap document on this site for community comment late August/early September.
